....An initial consultation will include a full medical, social, psychological and nutritional history followed by a medical examination. From this a number of treatment options can be considered by doctor and patient - Acupuncture can be one of these options.

In comparison, an examination by a traditional Chinese acupuncturist is generally restricted to assessment of skin and tongue, palpation of the wrist followed by a limited history. Dietary advice and Chinese herbs may also be used.

Why a member of the Australian Medical Acupuncture College

The AMAC, founded in 1873, consists of over 750 Western trained medical practitioners who have undergone specialized training in acupuncture. Continuing education occurs through refresher courses, advanced workshops and regular clinical meetings organized by AMAC and its state branches. International acupuncture specialists also feature at AMAC seminars and it's annual convention.

The education standards of AMAC have been accepted by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) as being the minimum requirements for a medical practitioner practicing acupuncture in Australia.

A doctor who is a Fellow of AMAC has done further extensive training and a series of practical and written examinations. A Fellow is considered a specialist acupuncturist.

AMAC is a member of ICMART - an international organization of medical acupuncture groups.
